Board of Directors

John Henderson, Ph.D.
Counseling Center Assistant Director, Denton Bible Church
In 2000 I joined the pastoral staff of Denton Bible Church to counsel and serve families from DBC, area churches, and the surrounding community. During the past 6 years I have overseen the biblical counseling training at DBC and I presently serve on the Board of Directors with ABC. I received my Masters and Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Texas.

Learning to counsel biblically has been a slow, humbling, and enjoyable process for me, and I am continually amazed by “the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God.” (Romans 11:33) It remains my constant prayer to see and appreciate more of Christ each day, so that I may, by the grace of God, counsel others to see and appreciate more of Christ each day.

From my point of view, true and lasting transformation happens when we behold and worship Christ. I believe His Spirit brings about incomprehensible change in us. “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:18)

It seems to me the gospel of Jesus Christ is an extremely heart-redeeming and heart-changing message. Gradually I am coming to realize how the gospel speaks to and redeems every meaningful hardship of human life. Comprehending and applying the message of Christ crucified and resurrected across every aspect of human life, therefore, is my constant prayer and ambition.

Ruth and I have been married since 2000. We enjoy life together. We struggle in life together. We are thankful for one another. We hope to become a clearer reflection of Christ and the Church every day. The Lord has blessed us with 5 children (Gabriel, Faith, Judah, Eliana, and Nathaniel), so our home is full of excitement, delight, and long days. Each day I marvel at the goodness of God toward us, and how Jesus and His Word offer real salvation, real hope, and real strength. We praise him for His grace and faithful love! .

Margaret Ashmore
A Speaking Ministry of Missio Dei
Margaret Ashmore was born in Aransas Pass, Texas in 1953. She was raised in Bonham, Texas where she graduated high school and went on to earn her college degree at North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. It was in Denton that Margaret began to attend newly established Denton Bible Church in 1980 and has been a member there ever since. Margaret has always been single – considered by her a gift so that she can be free to serve the Lord wherever He calls.

Margaret has been a teacher/lecturer of women for the past 24 years. Margaret’s desire is to see godly women raised up and equipped to understand their role as a woman, a single, a wife and a mother. To see them gain understanding in the true knowledge of Jesus Christ, to counsel them in the blessed confines of the Scriptures alone so that they would be bastions of truth in a day that they would live the life altering promise of Isaiah 58:10-12.

Jeremy Lelek
President, Association of Biblical Counselors

Dedicated to the idea that the Bible is sufficient and “Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12), Jeremy has dedicated his life to esteeming the efficacy of Scripture as the only means of true “soul care” within the Church.  Pointing others to the eternal truths of God, and the Redeemer of mankind, Jeremy is passionate about the message of change, transformation, hope, security, humility, love, kindness, trust, and worship offered in the changeless message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Concerned that the Bible has been severely overlooked in its capacity to answer the questions often put forth by Psychology:  questions such as, “Who is Man”, “By what is mankind motivated”, “What causes emotional turmoil”, “What is the true source of human change”, “What is the purpose of existence”, and “What is the goal of change”, Jeremy seeks to lovingly and compassionately point believers back to the Bible in search for such answers.

Jeremy serves as President of the Association of Biblical Counselors.  (www.christiancounseling.com). He is also responsible for creating many of the resources offered by ABC.  Jeremy provides training and lectures on marriage and other counseling issues for conferences, churches, seminaries, universities, and organizations throughout the country.
