Lead Counselor 


Job Description

Purpose of the Position

Briarwood Church is seeking to hire a full-time Lead Counselor to provide biblical counseling both to the membership, a ministry to an over 4000 member church, and to the community as an outreach ministry of Briarwood. He will assist the Pastor of Counseling Ministries by providing the leadership to the staff when the Pastor of Counseling is not available. He should be committed to: being a resource to the Lay Counseling Staff, assist in training of Lay Counseling Staff, enfolding those not committed to a local church into the life of Briarwood, and the assimilation of hurting members into the life of the church as part of their healing process.

Major Responsibilities

I. Carry an appropriate counseling schedule — this will entail scheduling approximately 25 cases per week.
II. Conduct Growth and Development Groups for “addictive” problems and oversee development of other appropriate group ministries.
III. Assist the Pastor of Counseling Ministries — will provide leadership whenever the Pastor of Counseling Ministries is not available; supervise a segment of Lay Counselors; assist with recruiting and teaching Lay Counselors; desire a mentoring relationship with the Pastor of Counseling Ministries for personal and professional development.
IV. Serve on the Faculty Team – in the Counseling Department at the Birmingham Theological Seminary.

Required Experience:

EXPERIENCE: a minimum of two years of biblical counseling experience.

CREDENTIALS: should be willing to seek ordination, ordainable, or ordained in the PCA.

TEAM PLAYER: must be a Team Player.

This Job Requires the Following Skills:

KNOWLEDGE: a clear commitment to the practice of biblical counseling operating from the sufficiency and authority of Scripture.

SKILLS: a skill set confirmed by previous ministry and references, appropriate to a counseling ministry.

This Job Requires the Following Computer Skills:

COMPUTER SKILLS: basic typing, Microsoft office applications and computer skills to work in a windows environment are necessary; also must have experience or an aptitude to learn computer programs such as our data base, Shelby Systems.

Education Required:

The ideal candidate will hold the MDiv degree or a seminary MA degree.
